#WER19 lands in Copenhagen
The Women in Entrepreneurship Roadshow continued its successful streak on its sixth stop in the Danish capital city, Copenhagen, on the 19thSeptember. The goal of #WER19 is to connect 30 women entrepreneurs with VCs and top players in the European and the US ecosystem. The goal of the project is facilitating access to finance and knowledge for women entrepreneurs as well as providing them with top advice from experienced mentors in a two-day event that aims at empowering women and broadening their connections in the local ecosystem.
The 30 selected female entrepreneurs have received $10.000 of AWS promotional credits valid for 2 years, $5.000 of AWS Business Support and $1.600 of AWS Training offered by Amazon, a main partner in the project.
On Thursday evening, #WER19 Copenhagen was jointly opened by Stuart Dwyer, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy and Nicholas Zylberglajt, President of EYIF, who provided an inspired welcome to participants, mentors and speakers at our networking cocktails.
Inspiration was maintained the following day, as the Talent Garden Rainmaking venue played host to an impressive VC panel starring local and cross-European talent including Betty Yan Liu, Partner Maersk Growth; Jane Thomsen, Program Officer Innovation Fund Denmark; Anna Grigoryeva, Investor Karma Ventures; and David Ventzel, Partner Accelerace.
The discussion chaired by Zylberglajt, touched upon key issues and topics that women in entrepreneurships currently face, including the startling figure that only 1% of VC backed companies are led by female founders, as well practical advice on how the VC pipeline can be more inclusive to female entrepreneurs.
Followed by a short coffee break, the entrepreneurs were then given a chance to speak directly with the VCs present, before Ajay Rao, Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy provided the founders with some interesting insights on the GES and YTILI programs and on the transatlantic collaboration between Europe and the United States.
#WER19 Copenhagen concluded with a speed mentoring/networking session where participants were able to be given adhoc advice by top mentors, such as Puk Falkenberg, Bloch&Østergaard; Arvind M. Hundal PhD., Business Accelerator and Investment Manager; and Jessie Scheepers, Head of People, Pleo, amongst other. The mentors spoke with participants about their projects and shared their expert knowledge and tips, to help them to flourish.
